Chojinkai Junior Championships March 2010

Once again Wado UK attended the Chojinkai Children’s and cadets Karate Championships in Penrith and once again we came home in the medals. This competition, along with the Junior/Senior event in June is a regular event in our calendar.

Setting off early on a very cold minus 4 degree Sunday morning, you have to question sometimes why travelling so far is a good idea. The reason is never too hard to establish of course, we enjoy the prospect of being successful, or of seeing our students achieve success. As we travelled home, the contented feeling of another successful day out was once again what made it all worthwhile.

On this occasion we were to miss out on Kata medals, but thanks to bronze medal performances from Harry Oetegenn and Ashleigh Clarkson, our trip home at least would not be empty handed.

Jessica Newton though was once again on form. Doing her usual trick of working through the rounds, she was soon to find herself in the final. The final itself was to be a cagey affair and following the the allocated one and a half minutes, all was square and following the Sai Shiai extension, the situation remained the same. This meant that the gold medal was to be made by a panel decision on who initiated the majority of action and delivered the best techniques. She gained a unanimous decision to give her ShinKen Dojo and Wado UK yet another gold medal by the end of her Kumite division.
