English Karate Federation National Kyu Grade Championships 2013

The EKF held their 2nd Kyu Grade Championships at the Ponds Forge International Sports centre in Sheffield on the 20th January. Members of Wado UK secured two gold medals one silver medal, and three Bronze medals by the end of the competition.

The gold medals went to Ellis Miller of the Zanshin Dojo in his Boys 9 years and under Kumite Category, and Olivia Ashworth of the Chikara Dojo, in her Girls 13-15 years Kata category. This means that both these Wado UK students now have English titles to their names for the next year at least.

Our silver medallist was Charan Dhesi of the East Hull Woodford Dojo. Charan won her silver in her 9 Years and under mixed Kata category. However in typical style one medal is never enough, so she added a bronze medal in her Kumite category also.

The other two bronze medals for the Wado UK group both went to Chikara members. Father and daughter duo Paul and Lauren Foster both medalled in their respective Kumite categories. Paul in his Male Veterans category, and Lauren in her 11-12 years girls category.

Several other members of Wado UK clubs also took part. Some of whom managed to win through several rounds before succumbing to stronger opposition.
From the East Hull Woodford Dojo there was Oliver Dearing, Charlotte Pinder, Teerth and Amrit Dhesi. From the Chikara Dojo there was Scott Longmuir, Gary Pickles, Calum Longmuir, Lauren Horner, Toby Ashworth, Tom Haylock, Isabelle Johnson, Saskia Williams, Libby and William Blake.
From the Hull Zanshin Dojo there was Josh Hartery and Joe Rose.

All of our students represented both their clubs and Wado UK well, and should be proud of their achievements. We would like to thank them for their efforts, and the efforts of parents who traveled to the event to offer their support.
