Northern Open Classic 2012
On May the 27th, three of our member clubs took competitors to the Northern Open Classic which took place at the Leigh Sports Village. Members of the Woodford, Chikara and Zanshin Dojo's traveled across the Pennines to the impressive Leigh Sports Village. Our competitors managed to win 1 Gold, 1 Silver and 4 Bronze medals between them.

Our Gold medal winner was Woodford's Charlotte Pinder, who managed to pip Lauren Horner from the Chikara Dojo to the post in their girls Kumite category. An excellent result for the Wado UK pair who managed to remove everyone else in the category and take the top two medals for themselves.

Oliver Dearing from the Woodford Dojo was also to win an individual medal, his being one of the remaining Bronze medals our group won. Oliver won his medal in his Kata division, where he was matched with among others, Charlotte Pinder and Teerth Dhesi from his own Woodford Dojo. All three of these competitors are capable of taking medals, however today would be Oliver's day and his semi-final finish left him in a well deserved Bronze medal position.
Our final individual medal was to go to Ellis Miller from the Zanshin Dojo. After the disappointment of missing out on a medal in his Kata category by one round, he was determined to improve on this position in his Kumite category. Ellis fought well through his first fights in what was a large group and had soon dispatched enough opponents to reach the semi finals. This however would be his finishing post for the day, but he had never the less achieved his objective and secured a medal for his efforts.

The remaining two Bronze medals would be in the team Kumite sections, where the boys team of Thomas Balaam-Reed, Oliver Dearing and Teerth Dhesi saw off some tough opposition along the way. Both Thomas and Oliver coming up against some much bigger and more experienced opposition, yet both of them pushing hard to get the best out of themselves. Their mature performances along with those of Teerth meant that the boys had a Bronze medal as a team, which is a great achievement.
The girls team of Lauren Horner, Lauren Foster and Danielle Holmes were the final trio of medal winners, when they managed to secure a Bronze medal in their girls team event.
