EKF National Championships 2008
YOUNG karate sensation Jessica Newton is being tipped to go "all the way" to the top after claiming gold at the English Karate Federation National Championships in Sheffield.
Newton, who was competing in the girls 10 to 11 year olds 35kg+ category, wiped the floor with her rivals at the Ponds Forge International Sports Centre to be crowned best in the country.
However, the Wado UK Karate group member did have a scare along the way in one of her fights as instructor John Moreton explained to HotShots.
"She won most of her fights easily but she did have a scare in one of the fights and got a bit lucky" he said.
"She made contact with one of the girls faces with one of her lightning fast kicks and there was a debate whether she should be disqualified or handed a penalty.
"They brought the medics on to check the girl but she did not want to carry on and gave the fight away. If she had not done this she could have been disqualified.
"But this was her only scare, she was superb all day."
