English Karate Federation Championships 2009

On the weekend of 21st & 22nd March 2008, the English Karate Federation held their National Championship’s at the Ponds Forge in Sheffield. John Moreton’s Wado-UK group was in attendanceand was in the medals once again.

Harry Oetegenn, who trains at the Woodford Sports Centre, was competing on the Saturday in the boy’s 12 to 13 years section and the form he is in at the moment was enough to see him return home with measured success. Harry had to work hard for his reward, but showed enough determination to win a very creditable Bronze medal. This is a fantastic achievement at such a high level of competition.

At this level of competition the standard is understandably high, but Harry is always keen to push himself to reach his potential and is keen to train hard and regularly. John Moreton, Harry’s instructor and former Great Britain International, said he is pleased with the way the youngsters training is going at the moment and is hopeful of more success in the near future. Harry is just one of a number of students from the group who are winning medals at major competitions around the country. Most recently he returned home from the Chojinkai junior Championships in Penrith with his team-mates Joe Munro and Danny Stannard, as junior boys team Champions.

An exceptional performance on that occasion from all three boys saw them winning gold in the final of the section, beating a very strong team from Scotland.
