Mushindo Wado Kata Championships 2014
The Chikara squad following the Mushindo Kata Championships
Representing Wado UK at the Mushindo Kata competition were 10 members of Chikara Dojo.
The day started with the younger competitors and at first the medals were slow to come, with Harry Rowland and Logan Foster going out just outside the medals in the Repechage. Then Calum Longmuir was to gain bronze in the 4th Kyu and below and silver in the 3rd Kyu and above categories. This was quickly followed by The first gold for Thomas Balaam-Reed in the 13-15 3rd Kyu and above category, Thomas then went on to gain silver in the 16 years and over section.
Lauren Foster and Briane Goff were unfortunate, drawing tough opponents in their individual sections. Lauren also competed in the over 16s going out in the Repechage in the bronze medal match. Tracy Balaam-Reed also went out in the bronze medal match. Our last individual medals were to come in the veterans 4th Kyu and below with a repeat of last years final between Scott Longmuir and Paul Foster. This year it was gold for Scott and silver for Paul.
In the pairs there was to be disappointment for Thomas and Briane in the over 16 section 3rd Kyu and above, going out in the bronze medal match. Bronze for Isabelle and Calum in the 4th Kyu and below under 16, gold for Lauren and Thomas in the 3rd Kyu and above under 16 and finally gold in the under 16 3rd Kyu and above team for Calum, Lauren and Thomas.
Everyone performed magnificently doing Chikara and Wado UK proud with many of the competitors stepping up to a higher level of competition and also having a go in sections above their own with some success.
The final tally for the day was 4 gold, 3 silver and 2 bronze.
